"What How Why” is visually styled as an old-school 90s surf edit, remixed with a carefully crafted poetic piece, that reflects on the expansion of human consciousness through the microcosm of the surf experience. With “what” being our primal nature, “how” being our human nature and “why” being our higher nature, the edit relates to this tri-fold way our evolution is seen in surfing and society. The entire edit is crafted around and for this concept, with every aspect of the production being an authentic creation. It is a fusion of consciously compiled footage being blended and synthesized with music that I wrote and produced, specifically, to fit the frequency of this story into a unified audio-visual expression & experience.If you’re interested in the filmmaking inspiration for “What How Why” it goes something like, Andrew Kidman, Nathan Oldfield and Thomas Campbell, in any order whatsoever. Through these influences the story is simply told through surfing, cinematography and a song, without much in the way of visual gimickery or expensive equipment.
