AM Surf Edit - Eternal by Barry Bierman
Eternal is a surf film shot in the Mentawais, one of surfing’s true frontiers. Framed as a love letter to surf and adventure, it follows three surfers with distinct styles as they chase swell, thread heavy sections, and move through the quiet in-between moments that make a trip like this stay with you.
Told in a visceral, cinematic style with long lenses, water angles, and atmosphere-heavy sequences, Eternal isn’t just about perfect waves; it’s about friendship, devotion to the ocean, and the kind of journey that shifts something in you.
At its core, Eternal is a tribute to adventure, the people, the places, and the magic that keeps drawing you back to the most remote waves on earth.
One of the main surfers, Pieter, taught me how to surf nearly 15 years ago. He’s a close friend, and he’s the reason I ended up on this trip in the first place. As a commercial filmmaker, I saw this as a chance to push myself in a different way. This is my first real crack at a surf short film, and I hope you enjoy it.
